Barbados $300 Million To Fix Roads

Barbados has secured more than 300 hundred million dollars for road repairs, the majority of it through a low interest loan from China.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley speaking at a town hall meeting for residents of St. Thomas, outlined plans for an extensive road repair program to be undertaken over the next financial year.

Miss Mottley detailed the road repairs after St. Thomas resident and radio talk-show regular Wesley Chandler highlighted what he felt was lack of attention to the roads in that parish.

In response, Prime Minister Mottley said her party inherited a bankrupt and debt-ridden government and is now securing funding to fix the country’s roads.

And, she emphasised that government has to carefully manage its finances and spending priorities.

Miss Mottley spoke of the more than 200 million dollars secured from China and additional financing from other sources.

She stressed the generous terms of the Chinese loan.
