A university finance professor warns Barbados is facing a potentially serious debt problem.
That’s the assessment of Professor of Finance and Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of the West Indies, Dr. Justin Robinson.
He was speaking during a debt consultation and advocacy training session hosted by the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries.
Professor Robinson notes that the current estimates show a large amount of government’s expenditure being used to just service debt.
Professor Robinson says a key part of the debt problem is lack of an adequate rate of economic growth.
He notes the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
