Electronic Vehicle Tag Law Coming

Electronic Vehicle Tag Law Coming

The road traffic act is to be amended to mandate the electronic registration and tagging of all vehicles in this country with a major rollout of the system to commence in a few months.

Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Santia Bradshaw, tells Starcom Network News that the pilot phase now underway is focusing on government vehicles and public transport in preparation for the full implementation when the legal backing is in place.

In the interim, electronic tagging is optional as there’s currently no legal requirement to do so.

Ms. Bradshaw stresses that the supporting legislation is coming, but notes that thousands of vehicles have already been tagged.

She adds that several owners of private vehicles have been coming to have their cars tagged and they will be accommodated.
