The Barbados Workers’ Union is concerned over developments at the state-owned Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation where management has alerted staff that salaries may be paid late from this month onwards.
CBC management informed staff via a memo yesterday that the corporation’s worsening financial situation is making it difficult to pay salaries on time.

Meantime, President of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, Edwin O’neal, is threatening action against any other state agency that fails to pay wages when they are due.
Mr. O’neal notes that CBC is represented by the Barbados Workers Union, which is nota member of CTUSAB, but cautions other government entities there will be a response if they pay staff late.
The CTUSAB head says he was very concerned when he heard about the CBC situation.
He sees failure to pay staff on time as a breach of contract and a violation of the law.
