Cabinet Approves New Feed Price Subsidy

Cabinet has approved two million dollars in additional price support to head off a planned increase in the price of animal feed that could have triggered food price hikes.

This has been disclosed by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Indar Weir, who tells Starcom Network News this latest feed subsidy runs until February.

Pinnacle Feeds, the lone local manufacturer of animal feed had signalled its intention to raise prices due to the rising cost of inputs from overseas and farmers warned they would have to pass on the hikes.

But Mr. Weir says this latest intervention is to ensure prices aren’t increased ahead of Christmas.

Mr. Weir stresses the price support is intended to ease farmers and consumers.
