Rains Halt Sugar Crop

Rains Halt Sugar Crop

Persistent rains have halted harvesting of Barbados’ 2022 sugar crop, with grinding at Portvale, the lone sugar factory, due to be temporarily suspended by the end of today.

This has been confirmed by Orlando Atherly, CEO of the Barbados Agricultural Management Company, the state agency responsible for the factory and a third of the sugar farms.

He says the temporary halt is routine in such circumstances.

Mr. Atherly doesn’t see the rain delay o the harvest as a big setback.
