PM: No mandatory vaccination

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says government is against mandatory covid-19 vaccination.
Ms. Mottley said discussions at the Social Partnership level will continue on the matter next week.
Speaking during an address to the nation this afternoon the Prime Minister called on Barbadians not to drop their guard against the virus.

Limes and picnics will move from a maximum 40 to 20.

No nightclubs are allowed to open. We are not touching churches, weddings, and funerals.

We expect to get more AstraZeneca vaccines next week through the COVAX programme.

There were two clusters with the Delta variant but there are another two potential clusters with the Delta variant.

On Barbados being a Republic

There is no change to the flag.

There is no change to the name of Independence Day.

There is no change to the name of Barbados.

We are not the Commonwealth of Barbados; we are not the Republic of Barbados.

We are not changing the pledge.

The Republic Transition Advisory Committee, led by Rev. John Rogers and Cherita Grannum is to have a discussion with the country.
