Workers at the National Union of Public Workers this morning walked off the job temporarily over late payment of this month’s salaries.

Acting General Secretary Wayne Walrond said the NUPW President had not signed the cheques for the workers in time for them to be paid today, the usual pay date.

Speaking outside the NUPW headquarters this morning, Mr. Walrond said this has been happening too often and today was what he termed, the straw that broke the camel’s back.

However, NUPW President Akanni McDowall denies that he’s has been signing the cheques late and suggested that as the union’s general elections approach political agendas may be at play.
