Almost 600 current and former tenants of the National Housing Corporation are to be reimbursed in total,more than $5.5 million that they paid to purchase their government housing units.
Minister of Housing and Lands, Dr. William Duguid, made the announcement in parliament on Tuesday where he disclosed that while some tenants got their NHC units free of cost, others paid up to $45,000, which he describes as unfair and unjust.
The smaller reimbursements will be paid in cash, while bigger refunds will be issued in bonds.
The payments are to be made by Christmas.
