Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was today chairing a meeting of the social partnership with a key issue being plans for a full reopening of the country, including the resumption of commercial flights which seems set for early next month.
Highly placed sources in local aviation confirm that a UK charter operation Caldonia Jets in collaboration with a company called Blue Sky Luxury is already planning to commence a weekly chartered flight directly from the UK to Barbados from July 3rd.
Caledonia jets has already started advertising online the flights that will depart from a private terminal at Standsted Airport at a cost of 75 hundred pounds, that’s more than nine thousand US dollars per person round trip.
The company stated that in order to protect both passengers and the Barbados community, they will be operating a COVID-19 self-isolated testing strategy for all passengers 24 hours before departure.
The UK firm stresses that the system is supported by the Barbados Chief Medical Officer.
Aviation sources tell Starcom Network News that the date for reopening of the airport to commercial flights is being discussed at the social partnership meeting.
