The Barbados Nurses Association wants to know whether nurses will receive a pay cut under government’s still-to-be announced cost-cutting plan.
Last week, the Prime Minister spoke of the need to reduce costs in the public sector, in the face of a $450m revenue shortfall.
She hinted to public sector workers being given bonds as a form of what she called forced savings, a term which some government employees are seeing as a pay cut by a different name.
But BNA President, Joannah Waterman says nurses are already stretched with sporadic pay, and low wages, and cannot bear any change downward in salary.
Ms. Waterman also expressed concern about the number of nurses not appointed.
