The Director of Public Prosecutions has dropped the drug charges against former Chairman of Goddard Enterprises Limited, (GEL) Charles Herbert.
The DPP has, however, recommended that the matters against Walter Prescod and Chris Rogers go to trial by judge and jury.
The court is still to rule on that aspect after hearing submissions from Queen’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim.
Mr. Herbert, the former Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA) was arrested along with fellow GEL director Rogers and GEL employee Prescod. On June 28th, they were charged with possession, trafficking and intent to supply 267lbs of cannabis found on the vessel Ecstasy, owned by GEL, five days prior.
Both Herbert and Rogers were on 400 thousand dollars bail, having handed over their travel documents and required to report to a police station. However, Prescod was unable to raise a surety for his 450 thousand dollars bail and remained on remand at HMP Dodds Prison.
