An odor has prompted the evacuation of the control tower at the Grantley Adams International Airport but aviation officials say planes are still taking off and landing.
Sources tell Starcom Network News that the tower was evacuated around 2pm and the fire service called into to do an assessment due to the intermittent smell of something burning.
The situation resulted in an inbound Virgin Atlantic flights having to circle briefly but the plane subsequently landed, as did a British Airways flight, while an American Airlines jet was able to take off and a Jet Blue plane was inbound.
An official said that despite the evacuation of the tower airport operations were able to continue to facilitate the takeoff and landing of planes.
