PM wants UWI Cave Hill Campus renamed in honour of Arthur

The Cave Hill Campus may be renamed after late Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur.
This was disclosed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley as the House of Assembly resumed sittings at the Worthing Corporate Centre today, its first since the state opening of the new session at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last week.

The first order of business was a tribute to the late Mr. Arthur, Barbados’ longest-serving Prime Minister who had been appointed as a Professor of Practice in Economics at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Leading off the tributes, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley described Mr. Arthur as a political colossus who set a new standard and new style of hands-on political representation that raised the expectations of the electorate.

She spoke of his clinical and pragmatic approach to decision making and also described Professor Arthur as having an unswerving commitment to party, country, and politics.

She felt a fitting tribute was having the Cave Hill Campus renamed in his honour.
