At least two people are reported injured in an explosion of a fireworks storage bunker at the Barbados Defence Force base at Paragon, Christ Church. The fireworks were reportedly in a converted forty-foot storage container.
The Regional Security System (RSS), located on the compound, was temporarily evacuated but the nearby COVID-19 quarantine facility was unaffected.
A resident of an adjacent district spoke with Starcom Network News about hearing a loud explosion.
The situation was brought under control by the fire service and the two injured people have been taken to hospital. Two cars were also extensively damaged by the explosion and sparks caused a small grass fire on the compound of the Grantley Adams International Airport.
