The local association representing nurses across Barbados says there must be no return to the inadequate treatment of nurses in a post-COVID-19 environment.
The position from President of the Barbados Nurses Association, Joanna Waterman , comes as the sector celebrates International Nurses Week, from today.
She told Starcom Network News that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed a lot of the labour issues plaguing nurses and hopes the authorities resolve these matters post-COVID-19.
Ms. Waterman said with this being Nurses Week and the year of the nurse and midwife by the World Health Organization , the pandemic has thrust nurses into the spotlight and the message has to be one of empowerment. She says they must be looked at as an investment and not a cost.
