Weir calls for humane approach in dealing with Rock Hall squatters

Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir, says there needs to be a humane approach to dealing with squatters at Rock Hall, St. Phillip arguing that many are welfare cases that have nowhere else to go.

Mr. Weir, the Member of Parliament for St. Phillip South, where the squatters’ village is located was speaking today on the Voice of Barbados call-in program Getting Down to Brass Tacks after a number of callers criticised what they felt were people being allowed to occupy land illegally, especially when it is a potential health and aviation hazard due to being located on top of a former garbage dump and next to the airport.

Meantime, at Rock Hall residents insist the squatters had nowhere else to turn.
