High Hopes for Renewable Energy

Over a hundred million dollars in IDB-funded renewable energy projects are underway or to get stated in Barbados as government targets the sector an as area of economic growth and job creation.

Minister of Energy and Business Development Senator Lisa Cummings also sees renewable energy generation as one of the ways to help bring down the cost of living by reducing the cost of energy.

She was speaking during the wrap up to her ministry’s presentation during the estimates discussion in the House of Assembly.

Senator Cummings believes that Barbados can eventually deploy its expertise in solar power generation across the region and further afield.

 

The Minister noted the tens of millions of dollars in funding obtained to develop the sector and spoke of a plan to extend beyond solar and into wind energy.

 

The House had earlier heard that there’s been such a high uptake of solar power systems that there’s more photovoltaic power going into the electric grid than the utility company currently has the capacity to store.
