Government and public sector unions are to resume talks this week as this country’s largest public sector union seeks a pay a hike for state employees.
General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Richard Greene, tells Starcom Network News that this week’s negotiations follow up to pay talks that commenced last November, and he hopes to have discussions concluded as soon as possible.
The former Central Bank Governor recently indicated public sector workers shouldn’t expect any major pay increase given the state of governments finances.
However, Mr. Greene insists that while the union is prepared to be reasonable his members are seeking an increase that helps their salaries keep pace with the rising cost of living.
