Environment Minister: Still Too Many Illegally Dumping

Minister of the Environment and National Beautification, Adrian Forde says there are still too many people dumping illegally.

His comments came this morning during the opening ceremony of the  coordinated by climate change activist Ashley Lashley.

“You must be the advocate in an active way to ensure that the oceans are rid of all the pollution that we are seeing across Barbados. You must be the voice to tell Barbados that their behavior as it relates to illegal dumping, those behaviors will destroy the environment as we know it. You must be able to get up and say, enough is enough because that garbage that you’re throwing in the streets is going to get in to the gullies and our water supply.  It may get into the sea and we know that is a concern. So I want young persons to be able to speak out. I want to see the other Ashleys out there.”

He said Government will partner with all NGO’s to help in the fight against the impacts of climate change.

We will support in your consultations for the design of a green business program, something that you’re very passionate about, Ashley. I want to say to you that we will partner with you on that project. We’re going to also galvanize youth engagement and in our flagship clean and green program, to welcome you to be part of that program across Barbados. But I want to also announce that my ministry is committed to continue not only partner with your foundation, but all your groups who are interested. We started a movement with the UNDP only recently so that young persons in the community will get funding from UNDP, so these young people need funding.”
