The police were called in and the Alexandra Secondary School closed after a student stabbed another during an altercation today.
The incident happened during the St. Peter school’s lunch break and involved two boys, one from the third form and another from the fourth form.
One boy is reported to have stabbed the other in the arm during a dispute on the school compound.
A statement from the Ministry of Education says the injured boy was taken to receive medical attention and the police were called to assist with the matter.
The statement adds that the school was closed at 2 pm to allow for a complete investigation, and the matter now resides with the police. The Ministry of Education says it will continue to monitor the progress of the student and will provide the necessary support services to the students, teachers and staff of the Alexandra School.
Earlier today Minister of Education, Kay McConney, stated her general concern about the general trend of violence in society and noted it could creep into the school environment.
She was speaking during the launch of new training program for teachers.
Miss McConney again said the security at schools is to being increased.
