Classes at Luther Thorne Suspended as Teachers Call in Sick

Classes have been suspended for the day at the Luther Thorne Memorial School due to the absence of a large number of the teaching staff.

Parents were this morning rushing to collect their children from the school at Wildey, St. Michael after being informed that there would be no classes.

Some of the parents complained that they were given no explanation of the reason for the suspension of classes.

Starcom Network News was unable to reach officials of the Ministry of Education but First Vice President of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Julian Pierre tells Starcom Network News that a number of the teachers from the school have called in sick.

It was unclear whether this was coincidence or a coordinated action.
