Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw has introduced in parliament sweeping changes to the Barbados Water Authority act that overhaul the state agency’s management structure, as well as the system of water zones, and the management and licensing of water wells.
Miss Bradshaw, the Minister of Transport Works and Water Resources, disclosed that the state agency will now be headed by a chief executive officer rather than a general manager, and that he will be supported by other newly-created senior posts.
But the most significant change increases the water zones from five to six, and includes the reduction of zone one which frees up for development a significant amount of land which was previously restricted.
