Former senior insurance executive Alex Tasker has been released from police custody.
Last night he was allowed to leave the police station where he had been detained since Monday.
He had been taken into custody after a ruling by the Caribbean Court of Justice appeared to clear the way for his extradition to the USA where he is facing charges for money laundering and conspiracy to launder money.
The Trinidad-based CCJ on Monday denied Mr. Tasker’s permission to appeal an order that he be extradited.
However, attorneys at law representing Mr. Tasker subsequently made an urgent request to the CCJ to hear further interventions.
That was agreed to and all previous legal rulings were stayed pending the outcome of this latest urgent application.
As a direct result, Mr. Tasker was released from police custody last night.
