Youth advocate Pierre Cook Junior is calling on the government to find ways to encourage young people to contribute to the National Insurance Scheme.
He was responding to the announcement that the NIS fund could be depleted by the next twelve years.
Mr. Cooke who is also the Prime Minister of Barbados National Youth Parliament told Starcom Network News that young people need to feel comfortable and have opportunities available to them in order to remain in Barbados and contribute to the NIS funds.
Mr. Cook said the focus needs to be placed on the cost of living and other factors to address the declining population.
