High court tosses out case to have elections delayed

A motion to have the January 19th general elections delayed has been rejected by the High Court which says it has no jurisdiction in the matter.

President of the Barbados Sovereignty Party Phillip Catlyn, through his attorney, Lalu Hanuman, had filed a motion for injunctive relief on the grounds that thousands of people in covid-19 isolation would be disenfranchised as they weren’t being allowed to vote.

But Madame Justice Cicely Chase who heard in the Appeals Court, handed down a ruling stating that the motion was inadequately and inappropriately filed in the High Court instead of an election court and therefore the matter could not be heard.
