A new Public Procurement Bill will be laid in Parliament next month that will lay out how government will obtain goods and services from private entities.
Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ryan Straughn, says that departments and state-owned enterprises will be required to publish their procurement plans and the timing of the procurements through a central purchasing window.
He told an online consultation with private sector officials that the new system should result in greater accountability and transparency within government’s processes.
Minister Straughn also noted that a percentage of its procurement will have to be provided by marginalized groups in the country.
