President of the National Union of Public Workers Akanni McDowall has been suspended from all roles and responsibilities at the union with immediate effect.
Through a letter signed by the acting General Secretary Wayne Waldrond, Mr. McDowall was notified that the union’s national council held an emergency meeting yesterday and took a decision to suspend him as a member, President and from all offices he holds.
He was also informed that a copy of the charges will be forwarded along with a time and date for a hearing.
Speaking to Starcom Network News, Mr. McDowall condemned the move and speculated that it was an attempt to block his bid for re-election. He’s threatening legal action.
