The Ministry of Education is putting in place a new system for end of year assessments for primary school students.
In a circular to principals of public primary schools this week, acting Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson said given the expected learning loss and lack of learning exposure from the Covid-19 Pandemic, mitigating measures are advisable to soften what she calls a negative fallout in the education system.
The Ministry of Education stated it is therefore creating Criterion Reference Assessments to ascertain the level of student learning of the standard curriculum at each year level.
The circular added that the analysis of these assessments will be used to determine existing deficiencies and plan an effective teaching programme for the next academic year, 2021-2022.
Ms. Adamson informed the principals that as a result, the usual end of year examinations in the core subjects should be suspended this academic year.
She said the proposed dates for exam administration are June 16th– 25th for Infants A & B, Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 in Primary Schools.
