Minister of Home Affairs, Information, and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, has announced a limited opening of some businesses tomorrow, but the seaport and airport remain closed.

Speaking during the latest La Soufriere Emergency Update, Mr. Abrahams again appealed to the public to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

He felt that since it is uncertain when the eruption will end, Barbadians will have to learn to live with the situation as the country can’t remain closed indefinitely.

The minister advised that non-essential personnel should work from home tomorrow as far as possible.

The entities that will open tomorrow are essential services, petrol stations, community shops, supermarkets, bakeries, hardware stores, and pharmacies

Polyclinics will remain closed tomorrow for cleaning.

Government departments that serve the public are to open Wednesday and other government departments are to open on Thursday, but this is subject to change depending on the situation.

Professor Richard Robertson, Director of the UWI Seismic Research Center, stated that the eruptions could go on for weeks or even last for up to a year.

He said that as long as La Soufriere is erupting, Barbadians should expect ash and prepare accordingly.

The Volcanologist said that the current eruption is bigger than that in1979 and is more comparable to the deadly 1902 event.
