Local hoteliers say they continue to be in talks with government about how a decision to cover the cost of accommodation for persons in quarantine awaiting COVID-19 test results beyond 72 hours, will be done.

President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Geoffrey Roach, in a release, said they were only made aware of the plan, shortly before Saturday’s announcement by Tourism Minister, Senator Lisa Cummins.

He said the BHTA needs clarity on the process as its continues discussion with its members on the matter.

He said the delay in covid-19 tests results by health authorities has placed a lot of pressure on the smaller hotels

Meantime, Barbados’ Consul General to Miami, Neval Greenidge believes the government’s decision to offer visitors who were in quarantined, a free trip back to the island, should be fully supported.

He tells Starcom Network News that this is an initiative to save the Barbados brand having spent millions of dollars over the years to earn its reputation.
