Sean Spencer has quit as President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) ahead of general elections due in about a month’s time.
Mr. Spencer announced the development in a post on his Facebook page stating: “I have resigned from the Executive of the BUT. It was a privilege to be able to lend my efforts to the furtherance of the cause of teachers”.
When contacted by Starcom Network News Mr. Spencer declined further comment on the matter.
In January of this year, a group of teachers who were unhappy with his leadership, attempted to bring a motion of no-confidence against him.
A meeting was convened to deal with the matter but the attempt failed on procedural grounds.
BUT General Secretary Herbert Gittens confirmed to Starcom Network News that Mr. Spencer who was elected two years ago had quit. A new President was due to be elected in August.
