Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul has confirmed a drop in egg production which has led to stock shortages at some local supermarkets.
He says production levels have fallen short of expectations and said action will be required to address these challenges.
His comments come in response to reports of empty shelves, which have sparked concern among some consumers.
He is hopeful that as local production increases any shortage would be quickly resolved.
Mr. Paul added that this highlights the need to assess the production systems within the industry, and improve them.
