Bico strike

Over 50 workers at the Bico Factory at the Harbour Road, St. Michael walked off the job this morning protesting over several grievances including health and safety concerns, issues related to wages, and claims of disrespect from management.

Barbados Workers Union negotiator on Bico matters Alexandria Thomas, says the workers have raised issues about unsafe working conditions which have gone unaddressed despite repeated complaints for many years.

Ms. Thomas said the workers will stay off the job until their grievances are heard.

She added that wages remain an issue despite previous negotiations in which the matters were not resolved.
