B’dos warned to expect stronger storms

Barbadians are being warned that the hot and humid temperatures will likely persist until about December and also to expect increasingly strong storms in the future due to global warming.

Kathy-Ann Caesar, Chief Meteorologist at the Barbados-based Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, tells Starcom Network News the historic nature of the Hurricane’s Beryl and Milton are signs of changing trends that have implications for both the frequency and strength of storms in the future.

Beryl was one of the strongest systems to ever form that far to the east and south while the rapid intensification of Milton from a storm to a category five hurricane was unusual.

The high temperatures are also producing the thunderstorms and intense lightning Barbados has been experiencing.
