The former Brancker’s Building at Fontabelle has been destroyed by fire.
The blaze occurred around 3 p.m. yesterday.
Fire officers from the Bridgetown Port, Bridgetown, Arch Hall, St. John and Worthing fire stations responded.
Cheffette at Fontabelle and the Rubis service station were forced to close business as officers battled the blaze, which caused significant damage to the structure.
Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Marlon Small spoke with journalists at the scene.
Starcom Network News understands that the building that previously housed the Brancker’s home fittings and hardware store was recently sold.
The property was formerly owned by the late former Barbados and West Indies cricketer Rawle Brancker, who retired in 2018.
Brancker’s went out of business in 2020 and the property was sold this year.
