Police called in at Hilda Skeene after security scare

The Hilda Skeene Primary School in St. Philip was closed for the rest of the day and the police called in after a parent reportedly entered the compound and threatened a teacher.

The Education Ministry’s Communications Specialist, Gaynelle Marshall, says the incident happened this morning. She advises parents not to enter schools unannounced.

Officials of the Barbados Union of Teachers, BUT, visited the school after being informed of the incident.

BUT General Secretary, Herbert Gittens, tells Starcom Network News that school security remains a major concern.

He says the issue of security at schools seems to be getting more attention in recent weeks and he believes this is very much needed.
