Government’s new Advisory Council on Citizen Security has quickly commenced work holding its first meeting today at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Ilaro Court.
The Council, announced yesterday by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, is a broad based advisory panel comprising representatives from virtually every civil society organization including the political opposition, the church, education, the private sector and the trade union movement.
It is tasked with developing strategies to reduce crime.
Speaking to Starcom Network News shortly after leaving today’s meeting, President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, James Clarke, praised the initiative.
Denis Depeiza, General Secretary of the Council of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, CTUSAB, spoke to Starcom Network News as he was on his way to the meeting.
He also thinks the council is a good idea but also believes it’s time for action not just talk.
