PM to address nation on gun violence/New BDF chief pledges to work with police to combat crime

Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Lovell has been sworn in as the new Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defense Force promising the force will work with the Barbados Police Service to battle the surge in violent crime.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the State House this morning Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley highlighted the crime situation in the country.

She stated that, by contrast, that Lieutenant Colonel Lovell is an example of what young people can achieve.

The Prime Minister said that she will address the nation this week but indicated there’s a plan to draft more young men into military service.

The staff complement of the Barbados Defense Force is to be increased to 800.

The new chief of staff stressed that the BDF is ready to work alongside the police service to combat crime.
