Security at schools in Barbados is being tightened.

Minister of Education, Kay McConney, noting an upsurge in violent crime in the country says the ministry is determined to ensure the school environment is as safe as possible.

Miss McConney was speaking at the Springer Memorial School after she toured a number of schools, along with the Chief Education Officer, Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, and other education officials to observe the resumption of classes at the start of the new school year.

There are new protocols for people entering school compounds.

She outlined the new school security protocols.
