The police blame a recent outbreak of gun violence including a mass shooting on gang warfare and reprisals but have made several quick arrests and charged a number of people.
Speaking at the last of three police briefings yesterday, Head of the Major Crime Unit, Inspector Mitchell Roach disclosed that feuding gangs from Sargeants Village, Wotton, Silver Hill and Gall Hill have been carrying out gun attacks on their perceived rivals and enemies.
The police have also identified a key suspect who was the alleged target of the Nelson Street shooting but who escaped unharmed.
Jakobi Germaine is now being asked to turn himself in.
Meantime, Head of CID North, Inspector Sandra Dottin, disclosed that Sunday morning’s murder of a 27-year-old at Weston was another of the reprisal killings, that’s said to be retribution for a murder last October close by Thunder Bay, St. James.

Inspector Roach also provided details of the dramatic interception of two cars and capture of four shooting suspects in connection with the two shootings that occurred in St. James yesterday, one being fatal.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Richard Boyce promises to bring the recent spate of gun violence to what he calls “a screeching halt”.
