The police are promising a crackdown on lawlessness on the streets, including gunmen travelling around in cars and bandits on motorcycles.
The Barbados Police Service’s Public Affairs and Communications Officer, Inspector, Rodney Inniss, says police resources will be redirected to crime-fighting when they discontinue responding to minor traffic accidents from next month.
Speaking to moderator, David Ellis, on VOB’s Down to Brasstacks call-in program, Inspector Inniss complained of the police service being overwhelmed by the demands of responding to the thousands of traffic accidents in Barbados annually.
He stressed the need for the new accident response policy.
Inspector Inniss says these traffic accidents account for 70 thousand police service man hours annually, resources that are needed elsewhere.
He also served notice that the freed-up police manpower will be launching a crackdown on lawlessness.
