Yearwood breaks silence on DLP impasse amid mediation efforts

Suspended DLP President, Dr. Ronnie Yearwood, has issued his first statement on the impasse in the party since the High Court issued an interim ruling that keeps his suspension in place for the time being.

The High Court ruling is pending a final decision on a legal challenge to the decision by the DLP’s General Council to suspend Dr. Yearwood and General Secretary, Steve Blackett.

In his statement, Dr. Yeawood extends gratitude to those who he says have shown concern for him and his family.

He describes the past five months as a period of reflection for him as DLP President and as a time of turmoil for the party.

Dr. Yearwood says he remained silent publicly out of commitment to resolving matters internally and upholding the dignity of the DLP.

Meantime, Starcom Network News understands that efforts are underway to mediate a truce between the DLP’s feuding factions whose dispute has spilled over into the law courts.

We understand key DLP stalwarts have been trying to bring together the two factions involved in the DLP leadership struggle with at least one meeting having been recently scheduled and then aborted.

Efforts continue to try to schedule such peace talks with some DLP interests aiming for a deal that rallies all sides behind Ralph Thorne as political leader while allowing Dr. Yearwood to remain President with the intention of having the two collaborate on any future DLP election campaign.
