Steve Blackett suspended from post of DLP General Secretary

The General Council of the Democratic Labour Party has suspended General Secretary Steve Blackett who now faces disciplinary charges.

The decision was taken at a meeting tonight (Thursday).

The move comes after Mr. Blackett, at a recent DLP meeting moved a motion seeking to have the party revoke the membership of its new political leader Ralph Thorne and to have Mr. Thorne expelled from the party.

Mr. Blackett subsequently spoke to journalists voicing scathing criticism of Mr. Thorne.

The DLP’s assistant General Secretary, Pedro Shepherd who now replaces the suspended Mr. Blackett, briefed Starcom Network News on the outcome of the general council meeting.
