Road fatality number 3 of 2024

A Christ Church man is Barbados’ latest road fatality, the third for year.

63-year-old Decourtney Thorpe of Kingsland Terrace, Christ Church was killed when two cars collided about 11:30 last night along the Adams section of the ABC Highway at its junction with Kingsland Road, Christ Church, in the area of the Deighton Griffith Secondary School.

Mr. Thorpe, who was driving a silver Daihatsu Terios, died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle and his female front seat passenger were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment

At the time, their injuries were assessed by the Emergency Medical Technician as not serious.

A statement from the police says that one vehicle was traveling due west along the highway from the direction of the airport towards Kendal Hill while the other car was traveling in the opposite direction.

On reaching the junction with Kingsland road, the driver of one of the vehicles attempted to turn right onto Kingsland road, and the collision occurred.

The deceased was the sole occupant of the car he was driving.

An ambulance and personnel from the fire service responded.

The roadway was temporarily blocked, and traffic was being diverted at Kendal Hill and also Bannatyne Road
