Opposition leader Ralph Thorne and Democratic Labour Party President, Dr. Ronnie Yearwood are meeting at this hour to resolve issues that have delayed approval of Mr. Thorne’s application to rejoin the DLP.
Starcom Network News understands that a meeting is currently underway at a venue arranged and facilitated by DLP General Secretary, Steve Blackett.
Dr. Yearwood has posted a photo on his social media page showing he and Mr. Thorne smiling while posing in a friendly embrace
Yesterday, the Executive Council of the Democratic Labour Party postponed a vote on the Opposition Leader’s application to join the DLP following a heated discussion on the matter.
Sources who were in the meeting told Starcom Network News that a section of the party felt very strongly about what has occurred in the lead-up to Mr. Thorne’s attempt to rejoin the party and several of those people were likely to have voted against the application if it had proceeded then.
Mr. Thorne, the Member of Parliament for Christ Church South, recently split from the ruling Barbados Labour Party and declared his intention to rejoin the DLP for which he ran as a general election candidate on two occasions.
Sources said there was a view that Mr. Thorne failed to properly consult with the current party leadership about his proposed cross-over and especially about his Senate picks.
Those sources strongly believed that the DLP President Dr. Ronnie Yearwood should have been allowed some input on the selection of the two opposition Senators.
It was felt Mr. Thorne and Dr. Yearwood needed to formally meet to discuss various issues.
That meeting is currently underway.
