Petrol Stations on Alert After Another Robbery Attempt

Petrol station operators plan to increase their security and request increased police patrols after a series of incidents involving attempted robberies or theft, the latest of which occurred this morning at the Kendal Hill Service Station in Christ Church.

Sources tell Starcom Network News that in the early hours of this morning a man approached attendants at the Rubis Petrol Station at Kendal Hill, demanded that they hand over the money and then ran away.

This follows the theft of thousands of dollars from a safe at a Rubis Petrol Station in St. John on Thursday night and an attempted robbery at the SOL Top Rock service station, early Friday morning where a man snatched the cash register and ran away but later dropped it.

As this morning’s incident at Kendal Hill came to light, customers at the petrol station voiced their concern over that and the other incidents and called for increased security at such business places but also for a tougher overall approach to crime.

One customer even saw the need for security guards at gas stations to be armed.

President of the Barbados Petrol Dealers Association, Aldo Ho-Kong King tells Starcom Network News the incidents are a concern and the operators will seek to boost their security.
