Staff Walkout at The Lodge School

Staff Walkout at The Lodge School

The Ministry of Education is awaiting the results of an environmental assessment to determine the status of classes at the Lodge School for the rest of the week after many of teaching staff there were off the job today over concerns about the conditions at the school.

The school was closed last Friday over the environmental issues and a cleaning was done over the weekend with classes resuming yesterday.

But, teachers remained dissatisfied with the status of the school plant and classes ended early today when teaching staff left the compound due to what they saw as the unsatisfactory state of the facility.

Some teachers reported feeling ill and subsequently left the school compound.

First Vice President of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Julian Pierre, says that both teachers and ancillary staff voiced dissatisfaction over the level of cleaning carried out there.
