Work Permit Applications Worry Trade Unions

The General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations, Dennis Depeiza wants an investigation into companies hiring foreign labour for jobs he believes Barbadians could do.

His comments follow a backlash on social media after a foreign-owned retail outlet published a notice stating that it was applying for a work permit for a non-national to fill the position of assistant store manager.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, Toni Moore, also has concerns.
