Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw has ordered an urgent investigation into a report of a minor conducting on route taxi while warning that if true such a matter will not be tolerated and will be firmly dealt with.
Ms. Bradshaw says in a statement that she has watched a video which is making the rounds on social media involving a 4-year-old who appears to be involved in conducting and collecting bus fare on a public service vehicle.
The Deputy PM says her initial reaction was that this could only be fake news as such behaviour is neither appropriate for a child nor is it the Barbados way.
She adds that as the Minister responsible for the licensing of public service vehicles in this country, this will not be tolerated under her watch.
Ms. Bradshaw says in the statement (quote)
“I have asked the Director of Transport Authority to have this matter investigated and to report to me by midday tomorrow (Monday). Either way, this matter has my attention and shall be handled with dispatch.
Furthermore, in the event that the legitimacy of the video is established, I would like to be the first to publicly thank and applaud the person who recorded this and made it public. This is what citizenship of the republic of Barbados is all about. This is what we need for positive change to come about. We need to call out those who introduce and perpetrate behaviors foreign to our culture and upbringing.”(unquote)
